Description:
This is a pre war,1940 built Winchester model 12, S/N 8421xx, with the seldom encountered 32" long range barrel. This gun retains 95+% of it's original factory blue, with a mint bore and crisp proof marks. Script on the barrel is sharp and quite legible. The receiver shows none of the common marks from disassembly and reassembly. Stocks are in great shape, with nearly no blemishes and only light handling wear. Original red butt pad is intact, with the correct 13 1/2" LOP, which was the way they were made, to compensate for thick outer wear. All mechanics work as they should. I have had a question raised as to whether the grip cap is original, so I posted some information from The Model 12 book by George Midas. The book states that several caps were available, as well as longer grip lengths, which could be special ordered. This cap fits perfect to the wood, which leads one to believe that it is either original, a replacment, or a custom cap, none of which should detract much from the value.This gun has been well cared for for nearly 80 years and would be hard to improve upon. $1595.00 plus $40.00 for S&I in the form of Postal Money Orders to lower 48.
