Description:
General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1940, .410 Gauge, 6lbs 4oz, Chokes M/F, LOP 13 7/8", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 7/16"
Serial Number: FWE182755

There was a total of only 2500 L.C. Smith Field Grade .410's made, only 1000 had the more desirable 28” barrels, and only 521 were shipped with ejectors as this gun has.  Most of the .410's being offered for sale are well worn and have the less desirable 26” barrels.  A gun like this one is unique and certainly one of the better examples you will find for sale.  Vintage American double shotguns are highly sought after, being great financial assets that grow in value as you enjoy their use for fowl and clays.  Those choosing the small-bore guns as their passion choose from a minute pool of guns, as the .410 bore is a low production gun that is hard to find in any condition.  In fact, of the prominent American makers, only Parker, Ithaca, and L.C. Smith made their shotguns in the diminutive .410.  Most are aware that the Parker fetches well over the $20,000 mark, and for some reason the Ithaca has a smaller following.  That leaves the L.C. Smith, America's only commercially successful sidelock action available in the .410 bore, as the most desirable and affordable of the American small bores.  The best guns for your collection and for investment are always going to be high condition guns representing the best of its kind with desirable features.  There is always a buyer for high condition, low production .410 American doubles.   Serial Number FWE182755 was built in 1940 by Hunter Arms Co. Inc.  Hunter Arms guns are more desirable than the later guns built after 1945 by Marlin Arms, Co.  The barrels are the very desirable 28" M/F chokes with 3" chambers.  The bores are excellent throughout, the ribs are tight, and there is still factory jeweling on the breech face of the barrels.  The barrels retain 99% factory blue and have two metal beads.  The action retains 90% vivid factory case color with some freckling on the bottom of the receiver, on the trigger guard, and on the bottom edge of the forend iron.  The ejectors are super strong and well timed, triggers crisp, and the screws are all excellent.  The barrels are tight on the hinge pin and standing breech like a new gun.  The gun weighs 6lbs. 1oz.  The wood is solid, factory original with no cracks or splits anywhere, the checkering is strong and original and there are small marks from field use.  We could restore the wood to new condition for $350.  The present dimensions are 13 7/8" LOP, 2 1/2" Drop at heel, 1 7/16" drop at the nose of the comb. The butt is fitted with a vintage Hawkins pad that was commonly used on L.C. Smith guns.   Look long and hard and you will not find a better price on such a high condition, all original, ejector L.C. Smith .410!  Thanks for looking.
