Description:
This is a “CE WG" marked bayonet that measures 14 inches overall with a 9 3/4 inch blade having two 7 inch fullers. The blade is unsharpened and retains a mostly bright polished surface with some pitting evident on the point and what appears to be sniping on the false edge extending to the edge of the fuller that may have been from being struck in combat. The ricasso is marked with “CE" over “WG" on the reverse and the Austrian crest on the obverse. The steel crosspiece has a shiny cleaned finish with serial number “2446" engraved on the reverse. The wood grip scales are solid with no sign of cracks or splits with normal wear marks. The pommel has a dull cleaned steel appearance with numerous nicks and dings from use with a stamped “5" on the false edge side. The scabbard is a correct blued steel with the same “CE" over “WG" markings along with the crest in very good to excellent condition. The correct leather frog is still supple with “44" marked on the back. Overall a very nice example of this bayonet produced for the Austrian model 1895 carbine that saw service in both World War I and World War II.
