12-SHOT Antique PINFIRE Revolver by Dumoulin Freres
Rare 19th Century 12-Shooter!
Here we present an antique 12-Shot Pinfire Revolver by Dumoulin Fréres, made circa 1880. Fréres was active in Liege from about 1877 to 1894 at the address of 89 Boulevard de la Sauvenière. This revolver would have been a fantastic companion for the armed citizen or the police officer in late-19th Century Europe. There were not many firearms which could match the firepower of a 12-shot cylinder in 9mm Pinfire. Obviously, having that much capacity had its tradeoff in the necessary diameter of the cylinder, making it a large weapon to pack around. But if you thought you were going to need a firearm that day, you would have picked the one with the largest capacity. This is interesting for us today as it is a great example how firearms makers and inventors were always trying to maximize the utility of weapons, in this case the round count in a revolver!
The overall condition is very good plus. The iron surfaces have a nice, dark patina. The engravings and other markings are clear. The wooden grips are smooth and solid. The bore is in very good condition, clean with sharp rifling. The action is excellent. These are prized and difficult revolvers to acquire. Here is one in fabulous and functional condition! A neat piece from one of the gunmaking capitals of the world: Belgium!
