Description:
This is a beautiful all-original Winchester Model 1897 12 gauge shotgun manufactured in 1954.  It has been well-cared for, and obviously has spent most of it's life in storage and has remained in excellent condition as a result.  The Winchester Model 1897 shotgun is an iconic shotgun.  In different variations it has been used by soldiers, civilians, hunters, cowboys, and police alike.  The pump-action repeating design with an exposed hammer proved to be both strong and reliable.  Winchester made the Model 97 for 60 years from 1897 until 1957.  This particular Model 97 is a hunting/sporting model and has a 28" inch barrel choked "Modified".  The original gloss-blue factory finish is still bright and beautiful.  While it shows some minor handling and storage marks in the finish in various places there is nothing bad that detracts from the clean look of this Winchester.  The bore in this shotgun is mirror-bright and pristine.  It is free from any pitting, bulges, dents, or other imperfections.  The original factory Walnut stock set is in excellent condition.  Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, and the original factory varnish is fully intact and glossy.  The action on this Winchester is smooth and precise.  It locks up perfectly in battery and there is no play or wiggle in the bolt.  The bolt release works as it was designed to, and the hammer still has both the safety position and full cock notches intact.  From what we ccan see there is zero mechanical wear on the internal parts of this shotgun.  This Model 1897 functions 100% like the day it left the factory 65 years ago.  If you have been looking to add an example of this legendary Winchester shotgun to your collection this 1954 example would be an excellent choice.  It is certainly high condition and "collector grade", but not too minty where you would feel bad shooting it if you wanted to.
