Description:
#4833 Colt 1883 Double Barrel Heavy Frame Hammerless Shotgun, simple factory engraving on the belly and top of the frame and fancy Damascus pattern on the barrels. Serial numbered in the 9XX serial range (1887 manufacture) 28”x10guage with excellent bores and tight action. Fine metal with no pitting but also no appreciable amount of finish remaining. Action is tight, wood looks to be the standard grade and in very good condition although it has medium wear to the checking and has had the decorative horn foretip piece replaced with wood. It has a very fine Rampant Colt hard rubber buttplate. There apparently were TWO frame sizes made in the 1883 model shotgun and this is the first heavy framed one that I have ever seen. All the 1883s that I’ve ever seen or had , both 10 and 12gauge, were all the lighter framed ones. Considered by many to be the finest American made shogun of the late 1800s (….a bold statement which will likely raise the hackles of Parker owners!) this Colt still has many good hunts left in it!
