Description:
This is an excellent example of a World War 2 production German P-38 pistol made by the Mauser Obendorf firm. Coded "BYF 44" this gun was made in 1944 by Mauser Obendorf who was given the code "BYF" in an attempt to hide where the pistols were being manufactured from the Allies. The P-38 was a very important pistol for the Germans during the war. It replaced the Luger P-08, and was developed to be faster, cheaper, and require less skilled labor to build. The P-38 also had the advantage of a double-action first round and a thumb safety that also worked as a de-cocker for the exposed hammer. The P-38 proved to be an excellent weapon for the Germans and was made until the very last days of the war. The factory blue finish on this particular P-38 is beautiful and 100% original, with only some very minor holster and high edge wear. It is obvious that this gun has been well-cared for since being issued to the German military. The bore is exceptional in this Mauser P-38, it is mirror-bright and clean with no pitting, erosion, or visible imperfections of any kind. The original Bakelite dark red/brown grips are in excellent condition with only a few tiny handling marks. Both grip panels are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, and they fit nice and tight to the gun with no wiggle. All of the numbered parts on this gun are matching, and all of the controls are in perfect working order including the safety/decocker. The slide works nice and smooth on this gun and goes into battery with authority. We have no doubt that it would function just as well today as it did in 1944. This BYF 44 P-38 comes with one period original magazine that has an "Eagle 359" Waffenamt on the spine (Walther). If you have been looking for an excellent all-original example of a Nazi P-38 for your collection this Mauser-made 1944 example would be hard to top!
