Description:
General Specs: Marlin, Year 1972, .45-70, 7lbs, LOP 13 3/4"
Serial Number: B005816

Here we have a “new” Model 1895, first introduced in 1972 as a big-bore version of the famed Model 336.  The introductory model was made from 1972 to 1980 and then they were changed into more modern versions with pistol grip plain wood stocks and pressed in checkering.  These early guns are far more desirable, produced with nicely figured walnut stocks and finished like the early Marlin lever guns with a deep rich blue on the metal and fine wood-to-metal fit.  They had the traditional curved butt and a hard rubber butt plate along with cut rifling that was equally accurate with cast lead bullets or jacketed bullets. The later guns are very functional but lack the quality look that has been associated with early guns and quality finishes.  Marlin believed—correctly—that there were plenty of hunters who still bought into the big-bore-is-better concept. Many woods hunters especially found that high-velocity, scope-sighted rifles were more of a hassle than an asset in their hunting grounds. So in 1972 it sort of reintroduced the Model 1895 rifle. This time, however, the big rifle was based entirely within the Model 336 family of receivers. This newer Model 1895 came with a 22" barrel, a four-shot half-magazine, a straight stock with a slightly curved hard rubber buttplate and Marlin’s squared finger lever. Sights were a folding Rocky Mountain buckhorn rear and a gold-bead post front. The receiver was drilled and tapped for scope mounting, and the top was bead blasted to reduce glare. At 40 1/2" in length and 7 lbs. the Model 1895 was and remains the woods hunter’s dream gun. This rifle, snB005816 was made in 1972, the first year of production.  Look at the wood on this gun!  Nicely figured walnut was used in the introductory year to start sales off correctly.  This big-bore has barely been fired, has never been carried in the woods, and remains in 99% factory original condition with a perfect bore with sharp rifling.  WE HAVE ORDERED THE PROPER REAR SIGHT AS THIS ONE HAS GONE MISSING.  IT WILL BE THERE WHEN THE GUN IS SHIPPED.  We have priced the rifle to sell, so don’t miss out!  Thanks for looking.
