Here l present a nice .58 caliber 1861 Springfield civil war rifled musket. lt ls a contract musket manufactured by “Welch, Brown, & Co.”
Lock reads “US NORFOLK” next to clear and deep eagle. Lock dated 1863. Barrel dated 1863 and has proper “VP over eagle”. “u” on clamps. Period correct ramrod. Mechinally fine with strong springs, though the half cock was grinded off at the tumbler...story unknown why. Stock has been replaced, unknown when.
Condition: The metal ls very fine with little pitting.
This ls a Civil War Springfield for the price of a reproduction!
