Description:
First introduced in 1965, the Smith & Wesson Model 60 Chief's Special in stainless steel is one of the best standard weight snub-nose .38 Special revolver designs of all time.  The J-frame Model 60 has the perfect balance of excellent build quality, heft, and reliability, with low-maintenance stainless steel construction.  The Model 60 Chief's Special was made for 31 years until being discontinued in 1996, when "airweight" model revolvers had taken the market share.  This particular Chief's Special was made in 1988 and remains all-original and in good overall condition.  While the stainless steel shows some minor handling and carry marks it is in superb mechanical condition.  The bore in the 1 & 7/8ths inch barrel is pristine, with no imperfections or erosion visible.  The rifling is still nice and strong with sharp lands and grooves indicating that while this gun has been carried some over the years it has been fired very little.  The cylinder bores are equally as clean.  The original checkered factory grips are still on this S&W, and while they show some wear consistent with the rest of the gun they are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  The S&W medallions are still in place on both grips and tight to the wood.  The action on this Model 60 is firm but smooth, typical of a S&W snubbie of this era.  It is perfectly "in time" and locks up tight.  If you have been looking for a nice vintage Chief's Special for a carry gun or for your collection, this nice all-original example would be an excellent choice.
