Description:

A.H. Fox “STERLINGWORTH” 20 Gauge SxS Shotgun

Desirable, Light 20 Gauge SxS Circa 1912!

Here we present an A.H. Fox Sterlingworth 20 Gauge Side by Side Shotgun, manufactured circa 1912 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ansley H. Fox was the designer and founder of A.H. Fox Gun Co. He designed this light and nimble “Sterlingworth” shotgun for the field. It was not as fancy as some of his other models, but it was affordable to the everyman and featured reliable quality in a very light package. This gun only weighs 5.3 pounds making it a great one for the field. Fox shotguns were made in Philadelphia from 1903 to 1930 when the company was bought out by Savage. Foxes came in all grades from the relatively plain “Sterlingworth” up to highly ornate like the “F” grade gun that accompanied Teddy Roosevelt to Africa.

This neat little shotgun features nicely grained walnut stock and modest but neat engraving on the frame. Double triggers and extractors. The left and right sides are marked “STERLINGWORTH”. The top of the barrel is marked “STERLINGWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL/MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA.PA.U.S.A.” Length of pull is 13-3/4 inches. Both bores full choked.

The overall condition is near fine. The blue finish is about 85%. The markings are clear and legible. A few tool marks on the frame. The serial numbers match. The stock is in great shape. The bores are both smooth and bright. The action on this shotgun is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a 107 year old gun just waiting to be taken home to the field.
