Description:
The Winchester Model 1905 self-loading rifle was a blow-back operated semi-auto design that featured a 22" inch barrel with iron sights and a 5 or 10 round detachable box magazine.  The rifle could be had with a pistol grip or straight smooth Walnut stock set, and was offered in .32 WSL or .35 WSL caliber.  First manufactured in 1905, the Model 1905 was made until 1920 with approximately 29,113 rifles made during the production run.  This particular rifle is a very early second year of production gun, made in 1906.  It has the factory smooth Walnut straight-grip stock set and is chambered in the smaller .32 WSL caliber, a combination we have not seen many times before.  It is an all-original gun and has not been altered or "improved" in any way.  The original factory gloss blue finish is still intact and looks good overall, particularly for a rifle that is 113 years old.  As to be expected, the blue finish on the receiver shows some handling marks, finish wear, and some evidence of prior rust, but nothing that detracts too much from the good original look of this rifle (close-up pictures provided).  The gloss blue finish on the barrel and forearm cap also still looks good and is consistent with the receiver, showing very little wear but some scattered spots of discoloration from prior surface rust.  The bore in this Model 1905 is excellent, showing nice sharp rifling and no pitting, erosion, or visible imperfections.  The original factory iron sights are still intact and complete on this rifle, including the original rear sight elevator.  The original factory 5-round magazine is in excellent condition overall, both inside and out.  The factory smooth Walnut stock set looks great on this Model 1905.  Both pieces of wood match perfectly and are free from any cracks, chipping, or repairs.  The original varnish is still intact on the set as well, with no spider-cracking or flaking.  The original Winchester-branded buttplate is still in place on the butt and in good shape, perfectly fit to the butt and tight to the wood.  All of the controls on this rifle and functions are in perfect working order.  The internals in this rifle are very clean and show little to no mechanical wear.  The bolt still has nice stout spring pressure and goes into battery perfectly with lots of authority.  The trigger and safety group both function perfectly.  We have no doubt that this Winchester Model 1905 would function perfectly if the new owner acquires ammo and so chooses, despite being over 100 years old!  If you have been looking for a new addition for your Winchester or general gun collection this Model 1905 would be a great choice.  This Winchester should prove to be a good long term investment, particularly because of the scarce straight-grip and .32 WSL chambering combination of this 2nd year production example.
