Description:
This is a great looking example of a Korean War era M1 Garand made by Harrington & Richardson.  This particular gun is barrel dated October of 1955 which is the original barrel for this receiver.  While it has been rebuilt at some point after 1955 it retains most of the original factory parts.  The finish on this gun is a very attractive dark gray-green color that is consistent on all of the metal parts except for the barrel nut, which has been cleaned exposing the shiny metal underneath.  This could be replaced by the new owner for a few dollars.  The bore is excellent in this M1 Garand, it is bright and shiny with nice strong rifling.  There is no visible pitting or erosion, and when we gauged the barrel it measured a "2" at the muzzle and a "3" at the throat.  The original H&R stock on this M1 Garand is an attractive example as well, with a deep red-brown color.  It is free from any cracks or repairs, and only shows some dings and dents typical of an issued rifle with no major damage.  The Department of Defense boxed eagle cartouche is just barely visible on the left side of the stock, but the circle "P" on the face of the wrist is nice and clear.   All of the stock hardware is intact on this rifle, including the buttplate with a working trap door for the cleaning kit/tool kit.  All of the controls on this Garand are in perfect working order, and the action is nice and strong without any slop.  We have no doubt that this Korean War M1 Garand would be an excellent shooter in addition to being a great investment.  This was the highest "grade" H&R M1 Garand you could get from the CMP, and as-such, comes with the CMP certificate of authenticity which is pictured with the listing.
