Description:
Up for your consideration is a 1892/1894 Springfield Krag Jorgensen Rifle chambered in the famous .30-40 Krag. This particular configuration of this rifle is extremely rare and collectable. That being said the rifle has been altered to some extent. The original sights have been removed and replaced with peep sights. The original barrel has been cut from 30in to 24in and a blade front sight put in place of the original. The barrel at some point has been reblued, but the blue on it is very good with deep mirror like reflections. The receiver is absent of the original case coloring and is a patena color with the bolt handle being polished. The magazine is numbered but this number does not match the gun, the bolt is not numbered suggesting the gun was rebuilt at some point. The stock is an original Krag stock but has been cut and sanded to accomidate the sporterizing of the gun. Missing the date cartouche and the P proofmark on the underside of the grip is almost illegible. The buttplate is an original Krag buttplate but too has lost the blue finish in favor of the patina seen on many rifles. The bore is in very good condition with strong rifling and only some slight frosting. Overall a beautiful and rare Krag for any collector or shooter.
