Remington supplied the lock and Maynard tape primer system to Frankford arsenal. The arsenal rifled the barrels. These were then issued to various military units, such as the U.S. Navy, 6th Infantry, Fort Riley Kansas and New Jersey units. The Maynard parts are intact and working perfectly. Metal parts are very good with no rust or pits. The stock is very good with no chips or cracks. Inspectors cartouche in stock is very good and clear, the barrel is “N.J.” marked, so this rifled musket went to New Jersey. Bore is very good. This is a fine example of one type of several conversion systems during the 1850’s to 1860’s to accommodate the percussion system. Other are the Ward, Butterfield, Nippes and Hall. SOLD Antique: Yes |
