Description:
This is an odd piece, more of a curiosity.  This Colt Single Action Army revolver is custom modified, gold plated, and sports aftermarket faux mother of pearl grips.  It functions fine, 4 clicks and locks up tight. The grips show a small chip near the heel, and I have another pair of similar grips that will be included, not as pretty but I don't need them.  The gun includes antique serial numbered triggerguard and backstrap, matching numbers 168012, placing them around very early 1897 - antique period.  The barrel is a .38 special replacement barrel used in the '40s and '50s for swapping out worn barrels from older guns.  The hammer is unidentified but is a fixed firing pin type.  The cylinder appears to be a 2nd gen cylinder with the rampant colt stamped on one end with no other numbers visible.  Other markers are a "W" inside the hammer slot, and the number "2" stamped on the right rear of the triggerguard.  There are no numbers stamped under the grips, or under the frame flat.  This gun's frame has no serial number and has no indication that a serial number has ever been placed there and then subsequently obliterated, altered or removed.  The frame flat shows no evidence of being ground down.  Per discussion with ATF, this is not a problem gun, no SN's were required prior to 1968 and with no indication of alteration, is perfectly legal.  The store that transferred it to me was a large national chain who checked it out to me using the numbers on the backstrap and triggerguard and I'd imagine that's how my FFL would check it out to your FFL.  This is simply an oddly attractive display piece perhaps worthy of further research.  The W inside the hammer slot for example is published as being attributable to a pre-push-pin frame era.  Shipping will be fully insured via USPS for $40, my FFL to yours.  Please make sure your ffl will provide a restricted-use copy of their license to me.
