Description:
For sale is a $250 Grade Under-Lifter Parker that is from early 1870’s.  The finish all appears original.  The metal is in good condition with some light surface rust in areas.  The metalwork could use a thorough but delicate cleaning to keep in place the patina.  The barrels do not have the traditional keyed latch you would find on a gun of this era.  It is almost certain that the gun was returned to Parker to have the new type of fore end latch installed, and at this point new barrels may have been installed as well.  There are no dents in the barrels, the barrels ring, no loose ribs.  The bores are also in great shape and do not appear to have any pitting in them.  The chokes are an interesting configuration, normally the left-hand choke would be the tighter choke, but that does not appear to be the case with this gun.  The right-hand choke has a constriction of 0.026” which is ~Improved modified, while the left-hand choke has a constriction of 0.010 which is ~Improved Cylinder.

There are two mechanical items that have been identified.  The right-hand firing pin return spring is not operating correctly.  In all likelihood, it is broken, or there is some grime in firing pin channel that needs to be removed.  There is also a broken spring or catch in the Under-lifter mechanism.  The catch is not holding the under-lifter open when the action is broken, so you must manually push in the under lifter to close the action.

Stock:  The major issue with the stock is that there is a crack in the wrist.  I have tried to show in the photos below.  This repair should certainly be undertaken.  There are some scratches on the butt stock.  The fore end is in fairly nice shape, but the butt stock shows that this was a gun that at one time was used and did not sit in a safe.  At some point about ½” of the toe of the stock chipped off and was glued back into place.  The repair, though solid, could be improved upon and the skeleton butt plate is not sitting perfectly flush with the stock (See photos).

I requested a research letter on this gun.  Unfortunately, I was informed that though the serial number can be found in the early Parker documents, the rest of the information on this gun, and the information for all of the other guns listed on the page is all illegible.

I accept payment via Money Order or Bank Check.   Buyer has a 3-day non-firing inspection period.
