Description:
Original U.S. marked Colt Third Model Dragoon 6 shot, .44 Caliber revolver. Featuring a 7-1/2" round/octagonal barrel, round trigger guard and rectangular cylinder slots.  Serial numbered in the 11xxx range, This Dragoon is a first issue of the Third Model production run manufactured in 1851, and sold to the U.S. Government.  This revolver has all matching numbers including the wedge and a martial  "U.S." stamp on the left side of the frame below the the Colt Patent stamp. Also present are clear U.S. inspector's cartouches on the side of the right and left grip panels. The last letter of the primary inspector's initials "B", is stamped on all parts of this revolver. The cylinder is marked Model USMR, denoting it's original use by the United States Mounted Rifles. The Texas Ranger and Indian fight scene is present and disctinct the full circumference of the cylinder, which is very unusual for any civil war era colt revolver, as most were worn smooth through use. It is interesting to note that 8390 Third Model Dragoons were purchased by the U.S. Army, and this particular revolver most certainly saw action in the American Civil War. This gun is in very nice original condition, and retains approximately 90% of the Texas Ranger/Indian engagement scene on the cylinder. The action locks up tight and is in perfect time. The bore is in very nice conditon with bright, sharp rifling and only some very minor corrosion present. A nice original example of a classic Civil War side arm.
