This is a very cool .30-06 caliber Springfield M1D Garand "Tanker" built by Arlington Ordnance in the late 1980's or early 1990's. This is the only one we have ever seen built as a sniper using a M1D mount and original U.S.G.I. Libby Owens & Ford manufactured M84 scope. Arlington Ordnance did a spectacular job building this Tanker. The fit and finish is excellent, and the American Walnut stock is absolutely beautiful with lots of contrasting grain and figure showing. This M1D tanker appears to be built entirely from original U.S.G.I. parts, modified where needed. As you can see from the pictures, this rifle is in excellent condition overall. The parkerized finish is uniform and attractive, with very little finish wear showing anywhere. The bore is pristine on this M1D Tanker, bright with nice strong and sharp rifling throughout. We gauged the muzzle and throat erosion and it measured a "2" at both ends, barely even "broken-in". The stock is also in excellent condition overall. Outside of a few small handling and storage marks the Walnut is beautiful and free from any cracks, chips, wear, or repairs. Arlington Ordnance even went to the trouble of cutting down the upper handguard to cover the barrel and op rod between the upper and lower band. Most Tankers we have seen leave this area exposed. Arlington Ordnance really went the extra mile to make this rifle look like a factory model rather than an altered military rifle. All of the controls/functions of this M1D Tanker are in perfect working order. The action is smooth when worked by hand and goes into battery perfectly with no play or slop. There is little to zero mechanical wear visible or felt in this rifle. From what we have found online Arlington Ordnance went to great lengths to make sure these rifles were in perfect headspace and were reliable to fire. The original M84 scope is in great shape and 100% complete and original. The optics are bright and clear, the turret caps are in excellent condition, the sunshade and rubber eyecup are intact, and the windage and elevation adjustments are in perfect working order. We have no doubt that this scope will hold a perfect "zero". This Springfield M1D tanker comes with a nice U.S.G.I. M1907 type black leather sling. If you have been looking for a unique and cool military style rifle for your collection this Springfield M1D Tanker by Arlington Ordnance would be an excellent choice. Not only will this thing be an absolute blast to shoot at the range or farm, but it will also be the most asked about weapon anywhere you take it!!
