The Metropolitan Arms Co. Navy Model Revolver is a copy of the Colt 1851 Navy and were made from 1864 to 1866 with a total of 6,063 manufactured. The Metropolitan Arms Co. received its impetus when Colt's factory suffered substantial fire damage in February, 1864. Every Metropolitan Arms product was a copy of a Colt, so much so that it is sometimes difficult to tell one from the other. The 6-shot percussion revolvers were fitted with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, one piece walnut grips, non-fluted cylinder with roll scene of the Battle of New Orleans (on guns from serial number 1800 and up), and were blue finished, with casehardened frame, lever, and hammer. This gun is as described but has been reblued/re-color casehardened and the grips refinished. The bore is shootable but is rough. The action functions but is out of time, when the cylinder is manually turned about 1/8 of an inch it locks up tight. It is all numbers matching, including the loading lever and the wedge.
