CAL TRAPDOOR CARBINE SERIAL NUMBERED IN THE 8TH CAVALRY RANGE. 22” barrel with Springfield Armory U.S. Ordnance “V/P/EAGLE HEAD” proofs at the left breech. Buffington rear sight with carbine “C” stamped on staff. Standard original block and blade front sight. Saddle ring and bar on left side of stock. Original 1884 Carbine stock with trap in butt for cleaning rod. All original except added sling swivel mount mortise in belly of the butt which has been filled. Very good overall with medium to dark patina and very crisp metal with no pitting Good markings on lock plate and breech block (1884 date). Butt plate tang “U.S.” stamp nice and crisp. Stock with old patina and handling wear. Small chip at bottom of lock plate. Perfect working order and excellent bore. Serial number in the 414,xxx range of Model 1884 Carbines issued to the 8th United States Cavalry in the mid to late 1880’s. SOLD Antique: Yes |
