Payment Types Accepted: Credit Card Description: Here l present a lovely .69 caliber 1816 Springfield Contract Flintlock Musket. History: The M1795 was the very first weapon manufactured by the United States, after the war of 1812, they continued to improve on the design, and what became known as the Model 1816 was born. The easiest way to distinguish a mode 1816 ls the brass pan, forward facing barrel band springs, and straighter “non-comb like” stock. This musket was very similar to the French Charleville m1777, as we grew fond of them from the Revolutionary War. This weapon would have been common ln the Texas Revolution with Alamo defenders, onto the Mexican-American War, and throughout the Texas-Indian Wars & American Indian Wars The lock reads “US JOHNSON” with faded eagle. Behind the lock reads “MIDDn CONN.” ln arch below 1832. Barrel plug has matching 1832. Barrel shows clear U.S. and inspector markings. The markings remain clean and visible and the arm appears to be original flint in every respect. Lock is mechanically fine with strong springs. “US” on buttplate. Proper button tip ramrod is present. Both sling swivels. Present left side cartouche. A very good Johnson Contract 1816 Flintlock Musket. Condition: The metal surfaces are an oxidized brown and gray patina with scattered fine pinprick pitting, more moderate on the buttplate, the rear tang shows lightly rolled edges. The walnut stock rates very good plus perhaps showing evidence of an old light cleaning still with defined edges. Expected dents and handling marks expected with age. No damage or repairs worthy of note. A very good plus type III 1816. Own an original! FREE SHIPPING (USPS Priority 2-3 day) to lower 48 states. l accept Checks, Money Order, PayPal (2.9% Fee).
