SCARCE Remington-Smoot “NEW MODEL” .32 Revolver
One of Only 3,000 New Model No. 2 Pocket Revolvers
Here we present an antique nickel plated Remington-Smoot New Model No. 2 Revolver, made circa 1880 in Ilion, New York. Only about 3,000 of these are estimated to have been produced, making this one quite scarce. This revolver was designed with the armed public in mind, being pocket-sized and holding 5 shots of .32 Rimfire. This revolver was part of a line of small handguns that was contemporaneous with Colt’s “New Line” revolver. Both these companies made a quality revolver, but quality costs. As a result, many small makers began producing much less expensive alternatives that would lovingly become known as “Suicide Specials”. In many cases, these little revolvers did the job, but competition shut down these lines earlier than they may have otherwise.
The overall condition is near fine. The original nickel finish is about 95%. The case colors on the hammer are well preserved. The markings are clear. The hard rubber grips are in great shape. The bore is clean with sharp rifling. The action is crisp and excellent. The front sight blade was lost and not replaced as distances would have been really short with this handy little gun. Here is a solid and still glassy smooth little Remington to add to your collection!
