Manufactured from 1878 to 1905, these big caliber double action revolvers were very popular in the American Frontier, and were carried by lawman and outlaws alike. They can be seen in many old western photographs, sometimes in a flap holster like this one, and sometimes in the double loop mexican style. They were definely quicker in rapid fire than the single action, and were adopted by the U.S. Military in the Spanish American war. This 1885 vintage Colt has beautiful period pearl grips that are in excellent original condition. It is chambered in .45 Long Colt caliber, has a 5 1/2 inch barrel and an old period restored nickel finish. It works well and could be fired today, although only with the proper ammunition. The holster is obviously hand made and has been well used, but still in good tight, usable condition.
