Description:
One of approximately 250 No. 3 Second Model American revolvers Manufactured for a Shoulder Stock. The included Factory Letter confirms the barrel length, caliber and smooth walnut grips.
The revolver was shipped to M.W. Robinson of New York City, Smith & Wesson's largest distributor, on December 1, 1873. The revolver was part of 110 unit shipment which had 10 extension stocks. As stated this is a Second Model American and is identified by the interlocking hammer and latch and a pin in the bottom of the frame just above the trigger.
The top of the barrel rib is marked > > "+SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A PAT. JULY10. 60. JAN 17. FEB 17. JULY 11. 65 & AUG. 24. 69+"... The assembly number "220" is stamped on the front cylinder face, barrel and barrel latch. The matching Serial Number is stamped on the Butt and Right Grip panel. The Butt Serial number is Totally Visible due to smaller numbers used.
( CORRECT CONFIGURATION )... The revolver is equipped with a pinned blade front sight and a notch rear sight on the barrel latch. Blue Finish with casehardened Hammer and Trigger Guard. Fitted with smooth Walnut Grips. The Walnut Stock has Blue Finished Iron attaching Hardware and Buttplate.
Serial Number 27061 is in Fine Condition Mechanically. The Entire Revolver shows an even blue-brown Patina Finish. The Stock is fine with minor handling marks on the wood, retaining 40% Original Blue Finish.
Shoulder-stocked S&W revolvers are extremely scarce and desirable, especially those in blue finish, and in Fine Condition.
