In modified version these were the M40 Viet Era Marine Sniper Rifles. In 1969 which was a transition yr for this model (alum. butt plate replced with plastic and other changes but still retaining the handsome original checkering pattern) This gun is a beauty. Overall cond. is at least 90 with respect to blue and stock finish. Some light compression marks in the hard RKW stock finish but none seem to have penetrated the finish into the wood . Floor plate which often exhibit carry wear does not and retains full blue w/o wear or scratches. The t. guard has one scratch which could easily be touched up with site black or other. Barrel may have been free floated but we have not taken it apart. Bolt shaft still retaines much of the engine turning. Even the black pistol grip cap is almost unmarked or un scratched. In 1969 only approx 1700 or so Varminters were produced in 243 as i recall. These are known for exceptional accuracy and are handsome to look at as well. In this cal with greater bullet than the more typical varmint cals (222/223/22-250 and so on) it has better down range wind bucking and energy for long disatance varmint or deer hunting or just good fun at the range.
