Description:
The most famous, single-shot, percussion firearm used during the Civil War was the Sharps carbine, a .52 caliber, breech loading firearm invented and patented by Hartford, Connecticut native Christian Sharps. Carbine has a 22¿ long round barrel and a `straight-breech¿ type lock plate fitted to its walnut stock and fore-end. Barrel address strong with ¿SHARPS RIFLE / MANUFG CO. / HARTFORD, CONN¿ in front of rear sight. ¿NEW MODEL 1863¿ stamped to rear of sight. Maker markings and patent designations are clear. Serial number sharp and strongly stamped unto the upper plate tang. Breech block operating lever mechanics are crisp. Iron bar tight and has its iron ring. Bore with its six-groove rifling is shiny bright with no pitting.
