Description:
Chambered in .44 American, this is a mechanically-perfect 1873 Smith & Wesson 3rd Model American of the second variation. Finished in blue, the revolver features period Gustave Young Germanic vine scroll style engraving in the "Black Leaf" pattern. The gun has a 8'' full length barrel and antique ivory grips. The assembly number 721 is all-matching, and the serial number 22728 is stamped on the butt of the gun. The factory letter states it was shipped to M. W. Robinson of New York City in 1873.

All mechanical aspects of the gun work flawlessly. The frame mates tight with the barrel and has no "wiggle" room whatsoever. The top latch keeps the barrel securely in place and the ejector works every time the revolver is broke open. The cylinder locks tight when the hammer is cocked or in resting position. The hammer also features a half-cocked position, allowing for the frame to be opened when the latch is pressed.

The surface is free of any rust or scratches and retains much of the original blue. The ivory grips are in immaculate condition and have no cracking present. The bore of the gun is clean and in good shape. Engraving is present from barrel, to the hammer, to the rear strap, and has never been buffed over. Serial numbers, assembly numbers, and the address are stamped clearly.

For being almost 150 years old, this Smith is in beautiful shape and would make a fantastic addition to any collection.
