Description:
The Finnish Model 1939 Mosin Nagant rifle is considered by most collectors and military weapon historians as the very finest Mosin Nagant rifle design ever produced.  The Finnish Military took the M91 Mosin Nagant and redesigned it, improving every aspect of the rifle that could be improved.  The result was the Model 1939, a very well-made, reliable, robust, accurate, and effective military rifle.  The Finnish Army used the M39 Mosin to great effect during the Continuation War of 1941-1944 thru the end of World War 2 and beyond, with the M39 remaining in Finnish Military service all the way into the 1970's.  This particular M39 was made by Sako in 1944, and remains in all-original and all-matching condition.  This Sako appears to have been issued and used during the war, with finish wear and handling marks you would expect to see on a combat-used rifle.  The original factory blue finish has a nice "battle worn" patina to it, with a consistent gray-blue appearance on all of the exposed metal parts.  All of the numbered parts are factory-stamped and matching, there are no force-matched or re-numbered parts.  The only non-factory stamp on this rifle is the small import mark on the lower right side of the barrel behind the front sight.  As you can see from the pictures, this is an early very small import mark and unless you are looking for it the mark does not stand out.  The bore in this M39 is in good condition overall, showing dark grooves but nice strong lands in the rifling.  We have no doubt that this M39 will still be a very accurate rifle.  The original wartime jointed stock on this Sako is in excellent condition overall.  While the wood shows minor handling, storage, and carry marks, the wood is free from any cracks or major damage.  The original early-type finger joint is still perfectly tight.  As you can see from the pictures, this M39 has a nice crisp Sako "gear wheel" cartouche and Finnish Military inspection stamp on the right side of the buttstock.  All of the stock hardware including the barrel bands, sling mounts, cleaning rod, and buttplate are intact and in good solid conditon.  All of the controls on this Sako M39 are in perfect working order and the bolt locks into battery perfectly.  If you have been looking for a nice all-original and battle-used Finnish Model 1939 Mosin Nagant this 1944-dated Sako would be an excellent choice.  These M39's are getting harder and harder to find in any condition, much less all-matching and original like this one, and they are proving to be excellent long-term investments.
