Description: This model 1897 Marlin Lever Action rifle has seen some use but still has a mint condition bore and will be a great shooter - even though most of the blue has turned to brown. All finish, including wood finish is original however, and actually quite pleasing to the eye. Buttplate (not stock) has a chip missing at the toe. All and all a great little Marlin and one of the few set up for High Speed 22 ammunition and so marked on the bolt "HS" for all to see. Rifle has a strange dovetail attached to the rear of the barrel marked Newton which I am sure held some sort of scope or sight aperture, etc. Quite out of the ordinary in any every and included with the rifle as shown in the photo(s) - it is attached with 2 screws and plainly stamped on the reverse NewtoN in distinctive lettering. Probably from the Newton Rifle Company in Buffalo NY. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
