Description:
This is a nice all-original Italian-manufacture Weatherby Mark XXII self-loading .22 LR rifle.  Weatherby contracted the famous Beretta firm to make the Mark XXII rimfire rifle from 1964 to 1971.  These Italian-made rifles were very high quality and displayed a beautiful level of fit and finish.  These Mark XXII feature a 24" inch barrel with iron sights (3-leaf express style rear), a semi-auto action in a grooved receiver with a factory receiver-mounted switch to turn the rifle into a single-shot action (whereupon the bolt locks back after each shot and requires the shooter to push the switch forward to chamber the next round), an externally-adjustable target-style trigger, and a deluxe checkered Walnut stock with a Rosewood tip and pistol grip cap.  The Beretta-made Weatherby Mark XXII rifles use a 5-round detachable box magazine.  After production ended at Beretta in 1971, all production was moved to Japan to the Nikko firm.  While the Japanese-made Weatherby Mark XXII's were still a high quality .22 rifle, they were not quite as nice as the Italian made rifles and lack the adjustable trigger, making these early Beretta-made guns sought-after by collectors today.  This particular Italian-made Weatherby Mark XXII has a beautiful original factory blue finish rating 95% plus, with the only deductions coming from marks/scratches the black painted finish on the alloy triggerguard and a few minor handling marks on the barrel.  The bore in this Weatherby is minty and bright, with no pitting or visible imperfections.  As you can see from the pictures, the metal parts on this rifle are in excellent condition overall.  The stock on this Weatherby is what actually shows some age.  Apparently this rifle spent quite some time in an overcrowded safe where the stock acquired numerous dings, dents, and small scratches.  From a distance nothing really stands out, but under close observation you can see these marks scattered about on the stock.  The stock is very solid however, and is free from any cracks, repairs, or major damage.  The original Rosewood forend and pistol grip cap are in place and in great shape, as is the original factory-installed Weatherby-branded recoil pad and sling swivels.  The checkered panels are still clean and crisp, and the factory-applied clear coat is fully intact.  All of this rifle's controls are 100% functional, and the internals of this Weatherby are clean and show very little to no wear.  We have no doubt that this rifle has actually been fired very very little, and what marring and damage you can see on the stock was a result of poor care in storage.  If you have been looking for a top-quality and super accurate .22 rifle for your collection this Beretta-made Weatherby Mark XXII would be a superb choice.  This vintage rifle would not only be an excellent shooter but a great investment as well, and if the new owner so chooses could have the stock reworked to match the condition of the metal and internals.
