Description:
#132, R. F. Sedgley Inc. Phila. Pa. U.S.A.: A True and Correct De Luxe Model (Not a Standard Sedgley) Springfield Sporter 30-06, Probably Made in the Early 1930's. It is a factory De Luxe with Circassian Walnut, cheekpiece, wrap around point pattern checkering, horn forend tip; engraving on the receiver, the barrel at the breech and at the front ramp, plus the floorplate with a game scene, grip cap, bolt sleeve and the trapdoor buttplate. It has 2 panel bolt knob checkering. The De Luxe Sedgley ?sold for $150 In 1932. A 24" barrel with a band front ramp, Most likely the barrel came from Winchester, Lyman 48 peep sight, Springfield bottom metal, Springfield wing safety, Two panel bolt knob checkering, Jeweled bolt and follower, Action rails inside are polished, A Sedgley Custom Classic style stock, Wrap around point pattern checkering, Cheekpiece, Horn forend tip, Sling swivels on the stock, I believe it has the original sling, Steel 1 screw engraved grip cap, 13 9/16" lop over a full checkered trapdoor buttplate with engraving, 8 lbs. 7 oz.; The floorplate and trigger guard completely engraved, the receiver and bolt sleeve with 80% coverage, 7" from the breech forward and 3" rearward from the front ramp, A very nice piece of wood for a Sedgley sporter, The original Sedgley blue remains at 85%, The original stock finish at 85% with scattered hunting & handling marks, The wrap around checkering remains at 92%, The bore is excellent, The assembly number inside is #592 and the serial #132 on the receiver tang, The Sedgley proof mark is an S? inside of a circle on the barrel ahead of the receiver ring. Here is a true De Luxe Sedgley that remains very honest and correct.

Reginald F. Sedgley was a Philadelphia gunsmith and he started R.F. Sedgley, Inc. in 1916. It remained R.F. Sedgley until his death in 1938. He was best known for his alteration and work on Springfield actions, he rebarreled and restocked many of these thru his years and turned them into very fine sporters. The first known ads for the Sedgley-Springfield sporter were about 1929. They offered the standard sporter for $65, a left-hand conversion for $125 and a Mannlicher full stock sporter for $100. In the early 1930's he offered a De Luxe Springfield Sporter (This #132 is one of them) for $150. Their catalog description fits this gun to a tee. The De Luxe Sedgley seldom ever comes to market so we presume there were not a lot of them made.
