Description:
This is a beautiful all-original example of an early-production BSW Deutches Sportmodell .22 training rifle that is property marked on the bolt take-down washer in the stock to the Soldatenverband, a German veterans association.  The manufacturer of this rifle is Berlin Suhler Waffenfabrik (BSW), formerly known as Simson & Co..  The Simson family, which was Jewish, had to flee Germany in 1936 due to the rise of the Nazi party.  In an attempt to continue doing business Simson had the Simson & Co. company transferred to a trustee, who was also already in charge of other factories in Germany.  These factories were merged and called BSW.  These BSW marked DSM's (Deutche Sportmodell) are scarce guns, as the BSW name was used for only a short time before the firm was seized by the Nazi's and renamed Gustloff Werke.  The German Sport Model of 1934 .22 trainer was used by all the branches of the German Military, as well as police, civic, and paramilitaryanizations all over Nazi Germany.  It was designed to mimic the Mauser K98 as closely as possible to help train soldiers and civilians alike in the efficient use of the rifle.  This particular model rifle was built by mulitple firms all over Germany, all well-made rifles but with varying degrees of fit and finish. The DSM-34 proved to be an excellent design, reliable and extremely accurate.  It was used as a trainer in Germany until the end of World War 2 in 1945.  Because of it's widespread use, U.S. soldiers were able to capture these rifles as "War Trophies" and most of the examples we encounter today were brought here in that way.  As you can see in the pictures, this particular rifle is beautiful and has been well cared-for.  As mentioned before, it is 100% original and all of the numbered parts are matching.  More description to follow...
