Most double gun enthusiasts are aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of  superior strength and mechanical genius created under the micro management of John Olin himself.  With only 32,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm sure to appreciate as you enjoy its use.   From 1930 to 1980 they only made about 2900 twenty-gauge guns in all grades.  Model 21's are fully capable of shooting the most powerful loads available, SO IF YOU LIKE MAGNUM LOADS FOR PHEASANTS, DUCKS, OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS YOUR GUN.  This gun, sn4432 produced around 1935, has been turned into one of the finest examples of the gunmaker’s art that I have seen in years.  Just look at the engraving and inlays on this gun, created by Master Engraver Cecil J. Mills from Orange County California.  It is interesting that Mr. Mills was a Superior Court judge in Los Angeles County and loved the art of engraving.  His talent is    well-known and his work shows incredible talent.  Having a theme engulfed in DIANA, THE GODDESS OF THE HUNT, the artwork shows Diana in various hunting scenes and her attributes are shown with class and ample detail.  The large gold inlays are raised and defined, the gold wire accents on the trigger guard, muzzle, breeches, forend escutcheon, and frame are well done, and gold oak leaves and acorns are a nice touch.  There are many custom engraved guns out there that look special at first glance and a few feet of distance, but upon scrutiny show a lack of detail.  The background shadowing of Mr. Mill’s scroll work makes the deep cut scroll pop!  The barrel wedges are highly detailed, and he even included a nice touch of a pierced top lever.  Many high-art engraved guns have a lack of attention to the stock work.  The wood on this gun is exhibition feather-crotch black walnut, with 32LPI checkering cut to perfection, and detailed oak leaf carving with ribbons interwoven throughout.  The background around the carvings is finely stippled.  There is a ton of fine artwork dedicated to the stock to help balance this gun out.  These are the details that matter!  This fine Winchester is not simply gun art but is a fully capable gun for the field or clays.  The barrels are in superb condition and there are nice touches like having the forend metal and water table of the action engine turned.  The specifications below will show you that the gun is mechanically excellent, without flaw, and ready for your shooting pleasure.  High-art guns are very good tangible investments and will continue to appreciate in value as you enjoy their use.  Thanks for looking!
