Description:
#4974 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 22XXX range (1876), VG+ to Fine bore ( about a 7+ to 8 on a scale of 10) and fine tight action. The metal is very nice for its age and certainly well above average for what is basically considered to be a no-finish dark brown patina gun. It has almost no mentionable pitting or serious wear anywhere and has the correct early “captive” Bulls-Eye headed rod and the early barrel with the italic address. The overall look is FAR above what one usually sees for an old cowboy Colt, especially one in the pre-1880 era, and it has an even deep brown patina overall. BUT.. suffice to say this (…and this is a VERY important fact)…that since many, if not most of the pre-1900 Single Actions have been restored, enhanced, and/or “juiced-up” to some degree, that one should always take the possibility that there as been some degree of restoration into consideration since these became so collectible. This gun has been valued and priced with that probability in mind, mainly because I have no history or provenance. There are a lot of photos to this VERY desirable early civilian S/A, so if they all don’t load (there are about 18 photos in all), just email me and I will forward them to you by return email. This old 143-year old Colt is a real opportunity to own a real piece of the Wild West in the form of what was probably the most iconic cartridge frontier handgun …and one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field.
