In 1898 Marlin began producing exposed hammer pump action shotguns to compete with the Winchester Model 1897. They were generally unsuccessful, as none of these models were made as reliable as the Winchester. Therefore, almost all of the Marlin pump shotguns were broken and disregarded, and very few excellent examples have survived. This Model 42 is by far the best example that we have seen in many years. It is 100% original with approximately 90% of the original blueing present. The majority of the blueing wear being on the magazine tube. All of the screw slots are unmolested, and the 28" barrel has a perfect bore. We have test fired this gun and it worked flawlessly. Very few of these shotguns exist in this condition and it belongs in a Marlin collection.
