Description:
In 1961 Remington replaced the prior iteration of their auto loading deer rifle (the less than reliable 740) with an upgrade (742) that proved to be excellent and was produced for decades after. In 1962 they introduced it in a Carbine version the 742C with 18 1/2" factory barrel and it has become one of the most sought after woods carbines of all time. It shares a bolt and many other features with the 760 pump its sister gun.
This gun has been hunted during the 57 yrs since it was made but has been well cared for; there is normal blue wear from use but not pitted, the sights and finish are original as is the stock finish. There are no major dings and no cracks or other to the stock which has not been shortened or modified and retains its original correct alum. butt plate.
We are calling the condition 78% but you will have to decide.
It is known that approx 90 % of these were produced in 30 06 the remaining 10% spread between many other cals, the 308 being the most sought after by hunters.
Barrel date code is KH (May 1962)
Additional pics will be added when we have more favorable light.
It comes with Weaver Base and Rings not shown in initial photos in correct factory holes.
Scope is not included however we have many good used period dated scopes avail mostly Weavers, Redfields, Lymans and good Bushnells....a few are shown here but not included with gun
