THIS IS A ENGLISH 577 23/4" EXPRESS BIG BORE RIFLE BY "W.W. GREENER". Bases on a "BRAENDLIN ARMORY CO." commerical action, which were commonly used by all the big names in the ENGLISH gun trade back in these times. This company was aquired by "W.W. GREENER" in the late 1890's. Rifle weights approximately 9 1/4 lbs.and has a 28 3/4" barrel. The .585" bore is in excellent condition as is the metal and the wood: see numerous "PHOTOS". "W.W. GREENER" 68 HAYMARKET STREET, LONDON barrel address. From the serial number on the rifle, it would be from the late 1800's to early 1900's era. The 577 23/4" Express was first introduced in the late 1800's in "BLACK' powder form but was quickly switched to "NITRO" form both in 23/4" & 3" forms. Bullet weights range from 520 grains up to 650 grains in the 2 3/4" EXPRESS form. This extremely rare rifle will make a wonderful shooter with the 75 grain "NITRO" for black powder, 650 grain load, or modern handload equivalent; either producing 1850 F.P.S. velocity, 4,900 Lbs. of muzzle energy for a "TAYLOR" knock out value of roughly 90!!
