Winchester 97 *Takedown Trenchgun, Cal. 12 Ga, 2 3/4" chamber, Cyl. Choke.MFG. 1942. This is one "That has been there and done it". The remaining factory blue is about 90%. The loss is due mostly to handling scuff marks, pin point flaking, small scattered scratches and the usual sharp edge silvering. There is very little evidence of rust. Surprisingly the correct WWII six row heat shield has no dents. The left side of the frame has the proper U.S stamp. The top of the barrel is stamped Oval WP, the Winchester proof and the Ordinance Flaming Bomb. The wooden stock and the correct 18 ring fore end have numerous dents and dings and a few small chips missing from the edge of the pistol grip. However there are no splits on either parts. The left side of the butt has the correct Boxed WB inspectors stamp and the proper Crossed Cannons Ordinance stamp. The butt plate is he correct Winchester Hard rubber style and the screws have not been damaged. Surprisingly the loading gate, slide rail bolt face and fee ramp show very use and the bore is pristine. Mirror bright with no sign of frost anywhere. This gun is definitely no Barrack Queen, I guess carried alot and fired little.
