Description:
Recent valuation by a top house appraiser has changed pricing. Look for us at Louisville National Gun Day show in October.   For your consideration, a nearly flat new, UNFIRED Sharps New Model 1863 percussion rifle, one of 1000 manufactured towards the end of the Civil War with the rare bayonet lug on the barrel assembled by the factory on carbine receivers.  See Sellers Sharps Rifles and Edwards Civil War Guns for verification. Edwards stated, after extenive research, that the govenment contracted for 1000 rifles in 1864 with saber bayonet.  These guns have the bayonet lug on the underside of the barrel near the muzzle.  He also stated that there was an additional contract for 5000 more rifles, and all of the 6000 manufactured were builtl on C series carbine frames.  Knowledgable collectors recognize this limited series as some of the finest available due to the limited use they received.

These rifles were part of the group issued to the Veteran Vollunteers in 1865.  There were nine regiments of veterans, but only 4 have been discovered listing serial numbers of the Sharps under serial C37.  The serial number, C,41754 would probably have been issued to a trooper in either the 7th, 8th or 9th regiments whose recoreds have not been found to date.  The troops were allowed to keep their arms after they were mustered out at the end of the war and most didn't see much service except for drill, guard and picket duty, hence they are found in very fine condition.  This one is exceptional, having 99% of its original arsenal blue finish, 99% of original case color and all the oil finish on the stocks.  Lighting in the photos doesn't show it off but can send more taken in better light. Has the inspection cartouches on the left wrist and inspectors marks on barrel and stocks.  The bore is absolutely perfect and mirror bright.  Top of the breech block still retains the fire blue with some fading.  Nipple and hammer are as new.  Wood has minor storage marks, barrel has a gun rack scratch under the rear sight on left of barrel, muzzle has a small scuff. All the barrel bands show all the case color.  There is a small area of raised oxidation on the left side of the frame.   This rifle is the same type and quality sold at in 2014  for over 30K under "Extraordinary Civil War Sharps 1863 rifle", see Icollector and RIA, who said their example was the finest they ever had and possibly  the finest extant.  Here's your chance to own one just like it for 11K less.   Call or email with questions.  Three day inspection on all purhases.  Thanks for looking.
