Description:
This is a very ornate and unique engraved rifle. GL Rausch was a maker and later his sons were retailers of fine German made guns in the late 1800's up into the 1930's. Most of the Rausch guns you find are very fine made guns with the finest woods and engraving. this example shows a particular style of engraving known as the Rausch square design.Many of their guns had this design worked into the gun either on the rib and butt plate or parts of the reciever and sometimes covering the whole gun as this example shows. The back actions , trigger guard and butt plate are bordered in gold and the squares have tiny siver inlayed stars in each center. The wood is over the top Fiddle Walnut with a horn and metal butt plate. The barrels are fine damasscus twist recently rebrowned. Bores are excellent with extractors. The bore size is .445" but a fired case excepts a .45 caliber bullet. I have used a .452" lead bullet with excellent results as the throat is long and tappered to swag the lead bullet into the rifleing. This was common practice in the late 1800's with black powder rifle cartridges shooting lead bullets. The cases are made using .450 BPE cases which are swaged with forming dies included but the base and rims also need slightly trimmed to fit the chambers. Rifle comes in a custom wood case, sizeing dies and a few fire formed cases are included. This is a lead bullet Black Powder only gun.
