Description:
Serial #520, 8.15 x 46R, 30" octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This unmarked rifle has a 1910 proof date, and uses a Kessler type Martini action with typical one-piece walnut stock. The barrel retains about 75-80% of the original blue finish with spots of mild brown freckling along its length, as well as some thin silvering along the edges of the facets. The original front sight are no longer present, instead a pair of Weaver rings and mounts have been added to the rear sight rail on the barrel breech, and a small, unobtrusive import stamp is present on the underside of the barrel, just ahead of the forend tip. The frame and lever retain traces of the original color case-hardening with spots of plum-brown freckling throughout, and a mellow, dark gray patina on the balance. The walnut stock is wedge-fastened (although the included wedge is a bit too short, and is probably a later replacement), and has numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes scattered about the old oil finish. There is a repaired chip on the right side of the forend, and deeper bruises and marks on the wrist, sides of the receiver area, and on the buttstock. The stock itself has an angular, shadow-line cheek-piece, and typical hooked buttplate. Neither the rear barrel sight, nor the tang sight are still present, but the action is crisp and fully functional. This is a very well-made rife, in an unusual one-piece stock configuration, and rates very good condition overall. FFL or C&R
