Description:
Serial #3919, .577/.450 Martini, 33" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some traces of freckling within the grooves. This is an 1887 dated, “VR" cyphered, LSA-made rifle that has 85-90% of the original blue finish remaining that has some mild fading and pinprick pitting at the muzzle with some further mild gray fading along a few of the exposed edges and surfaces. There are extensive British military proofs on the breech, and deeply struck “C(Broad Arrow)G" (Cape Government) stamps on the receiver just behind the knox form. The walnut forend and buttstock are also in very good condition with an armory re-applied military oil finish over several small handling marks and blemishes throughout. The right side of the butt has a crisp London cartouche, and double “C(Broad Arrow)G" stamps on the right side of the wrist. The rifle is mechanically excellent, and a correct, “WD" marked ramrod is present. This is a spectacular South African marked Martini, that is in excellent condition overall. Antique
