Description:
SOLD...Antique Type 5 Colt Pocket conversion to 38 Short Colt Center Fire. Here is a very nice and crisp Colt conversion. In the sought after center fire 38 short Colt. This is the type 5 variation and the most common type you see with about 10,000 being made. Seven different types were made between about mid 1870's to the mid 1880's.. This type has the 3 1/2" barrel and were made with no ejector or loading gate.. This little gun has some nice finish remaining as you can see. Nice bright blue mostly in the protected areas of the barrel but some on the bottom and top of the barrel also. Also bright blue in the rebate section on the cylinder. Some vivid case colors on the left side of the frame as well. Some more faded on the right side and not as bright. The hammer has very nice case colors also mostly on the left side. Some on the left as well. These guns that were blued and case colored are a bit more rare then the nickel ones you mostly see... The cylinder scene is 90% and very crisp. All matching numbers of course. No pits or bad spots on the gun. Excellent markings throughout. The bore is about excellent and mostly bright with very minor roughness. Excellent sharp rifling. The chambers are perfect.. The mechanics are excellent and a very crisp and tight as new gun.. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the wedge. The screw heads are very crisp and sharp with the fire blue still remaining on most. Not burred up from tinkering at all. The grips are a little beat up. A crack from top to bottom on the right side has been repaired. Who ever did the repair was off just a little bit and the right side grip just does not fit perfectly like the left side does. Not to bad but it is there. Some chipping to the bottom left grip as you can see. These are the original grips to the gun and still show about 75% original varnish. The fit perfect down the back strap. This a very nice little gun being blued and case colored and in center fire cartridge makes for the perfect combination and very sought after. I sold one to one of the fellows that wrote the book on these “breech loaders” as they are called several years ago for the same price I have this one listed for and this one has a little more finish so it is priced very fairly. Would be more if the grips were in better condition but it is what it is folks... This is a very nice and crisp gun that has not been cleaned on or messed with. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $20 insured shipping.
