The Colt model 1860 was by far the most prevalent side arm used in the American Civil War, especially by Union soldiers. This example has a three screw receiver with two cut outs for the shoulder stock. The bottom of the back strap has a small cut out for a shoulder stock, with the serial number 46122. The barrel is 8 inches with the serial number 46122 marked on bottom. The trigger guard is marked “44CAL”. The frame is marked with a serial number and “ COLTS PATENT“. Barrel wedge is marked #6122, these were usually lost or misplaced and we’re not stamp when replaced! The cylinder is marked with “ COLTS PATENT No.6122 “ and “PAT. SEPT 10th 1853”. There is a small very faint “ ENGAGED 16 MAY 1854 “ you can see almost none of the naval battle scene. There is a small “T “ stamped in the cylinder too. The cylinder frame spindle is marked #6122! This pistol has all matching serial numbers. The top of the barrel is marked “ ADDRESS COL. SAML. NEW YORK AMERICA”.
