Description:
Serial #3316, .31 Caliber, 4 1/2" barrel cluster with very good, lightly freckled bores. This is a simply beautiful pistol that retains 75-80% of the original browned finish on the barrels with bright, pewter gray on the exposed edges and projections. The frame retains 30-40% of the original, vibrant nitre blue finish with the balance of the metal aged to a smooth pewter gray patina. The walnut grips have some chipping of the original varnish at the butt, as well as scattered small handling marks and minor blemishes, but these are minor. The left side of the faceted nipple shield is engraved: “T.H. Jones / BOSTON" in mixed Gothic and Roman print. The pistol is housed in its original, six compartment, walnut presentation case with original Robbins & Lawrence ramrod, single cavity bullet mould, powder scoop, brass pistol flask with red morocco cover, and a period Joyce & Co. cap tin. The case is in very goos shape, but does have a single crack across the left side of the lid. An inlaid silver name plate is present: “T.H. Jones / BOSTON" in the same mixed Gothic and Roman print found on the pistol. This is one of the best examples of a cased Robbins & Lawrence Pepperbox as one is likely to ever find. It has an exceptional amount of original finish remaining, and obviously saw very limited use throughout its long history. It is a splendid example, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Antique
