Description:
SOLD...Antique Colt Pocket Conversion type 5 Center Fire. A pretty nice and honest Colt type 5 conversion. It is in the desirable .38 short Colt center fire black powder caliber. Has the standard 3 1/2” barrel. Barrel has traces of original nickel finish. Cylinder has about 10% or so and the frame has traces of finish. The rear grip strap has about 40% and the trigger guard has about 75%. The finish is kinda flaky on the brass as you can see. The cylinder scene is about 60% and worn in places.. The marking are all clear and all readable. All matching numbers of course. S/N 315064.. The gun is not pitted but has the common dings around the wedge on the right side as you can see...The mechanics are excellent and a very crisp and tight gun. Rock solid barrel to frame fit and tight as new. You have to tap the barrel off of the frame when you remove the wedge. It just does not fall off like most of these you see that are worn out from being taken apart so many times. The grips show an old repair crack from top to bottom on the right side as you can see. It is solid and they are numbered to the gun in the rear grip strap inside. Left grip has 25% original varnish and about 10% or so on the right. Couple of correct replaced screws. The bore is very good with strong rifling and minor frosting .. Not pitted and is clean. The cylinder chambers are very good as well and not pitted. These guns were factory made from Colt 1849 and 1862 pocket percussion parts from about mid 1870's to mid 1880's. Very popular back up guns and easily concealed in coat pockets in the day. About 10,000 of this model type 5 were made. Seven different types of these “ breech loaders “ were made. The type 5 was the most popular. Nice little gun at a fair price. $20 shipping.
