Description:
Antique Winchester Model 1886 in desirable 45-70. Has special order 26" part octagon barrel with full magazine (actually 2 special order features as 1/2 mag was standard issue for part octagon guns) and rifle butt. Cody email sheet confirms configurations, shows serial # 29656 applied 5/8/1889 and shipped 6/4/1889 (copy will be given to buyer). Stocks are sound, no extra holes, never sanded or refinished, no splits, just a tiny piece missing upper right by tang. Original case colors on frame, hammer, lever, butt plate and fore end cap have nickeled out with hints of cc remaining. Barrel and mag tube are gray on the exposed areas with 60% plum in the protected areas. Bore is good with consistent rifling, very little pitting, and a hint of frost. Action is strong and smooth; half-cock safety seems to function properly. Should be a good shooter upon inspection by a competent gunsmith as I have not test-fired this rifle. All markings are correct for the period of manufacturea and all are clear. Nice untouched special order 1886 in a great caliber.
