Description:
An exceptional, original example of the Remington Elliot ring trigger .22 rf five shot derringer / pepperbox produced from ca. 1863 into the 1870s.
It is believed about 7,500 of the Remington Elliot .22 caliber model were produced. More than twice as many of the larger four shot .32 caliber models were produced in the same period and serial number sequence. The .22 caliber Elliots are very elegant little pistols. They were popular among women and men of diverse professions on the American Frontier and aboard Mississippi Riverboats.
The .22 caliber models are not common. Few have survived in the pristine original condition of this example.
CONDITION: Frame and barrel group retain 97%+ strong original nickel plated finish with a couple of age spots. The ring trigger retains nearly all its original dull casehardened finish. The screws retain nearly all their bright 'fire blue' finish. Mechanical functions are excellent. The bores are shiny with crisp rifling, a bit of storage rust, and plenty of dust/dirt. This pistol has beautiful original grips with lovely patina.
This impressive little Remington shows virtually no use and would certainly show well in a high condition Remington, Frontier, or Derringer collection. It would very difficult to up-grade. This pistol has been in a private collection since 1990.
