Winchester model 61 gallery rifle,it has a round barrel, caliber is 22 SHORT,the trangle shape loading port that gallery rifles have so a loading tube that was made by Winchester could be used so only 22 short ammo could be loaded in the rifle,23 inch round barrel VERY RARE,the barrel marking are in front of the rear sight on the left side of the barrel with no marking on the right side.Any and all Winchester 61's with a round barrel with single caliber marking such as 22 SHORT,, 22 LONG or 22 LONG RIFLE in front of the rear sight and no markings on the right side are VERY RARE,I know many collectors have never seen one. In over 60 years of collecting Winchester 61's I have only seen two.Tang is factory drilled and tapped for a peep sight.One small mark on right side of frame above front of trigger guard see photo.Stock has some handling marks from use in a shooting gallery.On page 415 in Winchester Slide Action Rifles by Ned Schwing lists a receiver build date of between 6/23/1942 and 7/30/1942 for the serial number of this rifle.The rifle will be shipped in a new hard rifle case with insurance included.FREE SHIPPING to lowered 48 states only.
